The 2026 Apprentice of the Year winner, Lewis Verran, is currently completing a Level 3 Installation Electrician/Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship with Pendennis Shipyard.

Lewis impressed judges with his dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm for the electrical trade. Throughout his apprenticeship, he has consistently demonstrated a strong aptitude for both the theoretical and practical aspects of electrical work, approaching every task with a positive attitude and a determination to achieve high standards.

His reliability, attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices have made him a valued member of the team at Pendennis. However, it is Lewis’s contribution beyond his day-to-day role that makes his achievement particularly noteworthy.

As an Apprenticeship Ambassador, Lewis has represented Pendennis with professionalism and pride, sharing his experiences with employers, students and aspiring apprentices. Through presentations and events, he has spoken about his own journey into the industry, helping to raise awareness of apprenticeships as a valuable route into skilled employment.

His willingness to champion apprenticeships has encouraged others to explore the opportunities available and consider becoming ambassadors themselves. By confidently sharing his experiences and inspiring others, Lewis has made a positive contribution to the wider apprenticeship community across Cornwall.

The judges recognised not only Lewis’s technical skills and work ethic but also his commitment to supporting and promoting apprenticeships. His ability to combine professional excellence with a passion for inspiring others demonstrates the qualities of an outstanding apprentice and future industry professional.
