How your local JobCentre can support you if you're looking for work:

Work experience

Looking to build your skills and confidence? A work experience placement can help you gain valuable experience in a real workplace, develop new skills and strengthen your CV.

Arranged through Jobcentre Plus, placements are available to young people aged 18 to 24 and adults aged 25 and over who have little or no recent work history. They offer a chance to explore different types of work, learn from employers and take a positive step towards employment.

Work trials

A work trial gives you the chance to try a job before accepting a role. Organised through Jobcentre Plus, work trials are short placements linked to a specific vacancy and take place after you've been interviewed by an employer.

They offer an opportunity to gain experience, demonstrate your skills and decide whether the role is right for you. If you're claiming benefits, you'll continue to receive them during the work trial.

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship can help you gain valuable skills, earn a wage and work towards a recognised qualification at the same time.

Whether you're starting your career, looking to progress in your current role or considering a career change, apprenticeships are available at different levels and across a wide range of sectors. You can apply for an apprenticeship with a new employer or explore opportunities to develop your skills in your current job.
