Ways your business can support people looking for work

Work experience

Support people looking for work while getting to know potential future employees. Through Jobcentre Plus, you can offer work experience placements to young people aged 18 to 24 and adults aged 25 and over who have little or no recent work history.

Work experience placements provide an opportunity to develop skills, build confidence and help people take their next step into employment.

Work trials

A work trial gives you and a potential employee the chance to see if a role is the right fit before making a hiring decision. Organised through Jobcentre Plus, work trials are short, unpaid placements for jobseekers who are claiming benefits and have interviewed for a specific vacancy.

Participants continue to receive their benefits during the trial, helping you assess skills and suitability while supporting someone into employment.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships can help you attract new talent, develop skills within your organisation and build your future workforce. An apprentice is a paid employee who combines work with training.

You can recruit a new apprentice or support an existing employee to gain new skills and qualifications. Apprenticeships are available at different levels, making them suitable for school leavers, graduates and people looking to progress or change career.

Government funding may be available to help with training costs. Visit our Apprenticeships pages to find out more.
